THE HISTORY OF THE WANAKA GOLF CLUB
Written by John Carter
Golf has been played in Wanaka since about 1911 and, following a short recess during World War I, continuously since 1922. Starting with a 9-hole course down on the flat near the lake (now Pembroke Park), then moving in 1927 up to the present site overlooking Lake Wanaka, the golf course has been developed by enthusiastic and hard-working members and staff to the point where the present Club thrives with almost 1300 members, over a dozen staff, and one of the finest cub courses in New Zealand. This is its history, complete with photographs.
